Simply reading without understanding what GP is will not be beneficial for you.
You need to first know that GP is not just about the English language but it is the usage of English to put your point across, succinctly.
Second, you need to pore over past years’ papers to pick up trends in terms of topics for both Paper 1 essay as well as Paper 2 comprehension passages. This gives you a direction towards what to study (areas of interest) and most importantly, what not to study.
Third, you need to decide on which countries you are going to focus on when you study and collate information for these countries. This will make you an expert on the countries. More than that, you will be able to broaden the scope of your paragraphs by citing examples from different countries. Make sure the countries you choose are representative of developed and less developed countries (DCs and LDCs) so that you will be able to draw inferences and evaluate (to show conceptual understanding, crucial for the new syllabus effective this year).
