“That is one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind,” astronaut Neil Armstrong said as he stepped onto the moon in 1969 and spoke to an estimated 600 million television viewers around the world. What he said summed up an extraordinary moment in the history of human race as the first person to travel in space and step on the moon. Even though space exploration is costly, not to mention hazardous, space exploration has not abated and continues to fascinate people and dominate scientific research today. In fact, government space agencies are competing to be the first to send humans to Mars, alongside private spaceflights. Overall, I am of the view that space travel is largely justified in today’s world as passengers are paying from their own pocket, albeit a hefty sum, to be space tourists. Besides, space travel pivots the move from dependence on earth-based resources, a vital endeavour given the constant exploiting and destroying of mother nature.
